Osaka is the second largest city of Japan (the largest in west area, over 8.8
million population). It has a very long history (over, at least, 1,600
years) and is closed from Kansai International Airport (KIX). Surrounding cities of Osaka are, Kobe, Kyoto, and Nara. Especially Kyoto ("capital city" in Japanese) is a former (or since there is
no actual legal grounds for Tokyo ("east capital" in Japanese),
some insist it is still) capital city of Japan for about 1,070 years, and
Nara is the second oldest capital for about 80 years about 1,300 years ago.
It is also possible to visit Asuka (also in Nara) which was the first captal of Japan for 170 years about
1,470 years ago. There are 4 world heritage sites around Osaka (1 in Kyoto,
3 in Nara) and another in Himeji (castle, under mending).
